ANNUAL OUTREACH EVENTS  

YWCA Empowerment Day for Girls
A hands-on, educational event where over 100 middle school girls from the North Chicago, Waukegan, and Zion-Benton School Districts participate in a one-day conference that exposes them to Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics (STEM).

This event is a partnership with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, the YWCA of Lake County, and the Lake County Regional Office of Education.  Learn more about this event by reading the Empowerment Day for Girls article.


National Youth Leadership Forum
An event that brings high-school students throughout the Nation together to learn more about the vast opportunities available in the health professions.  Students receive the opportunity to participate in a strength and flexibility session, a gait analysis workshop and pedorthic laboratory.

This event is a partnership with the College of Health Professions, the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, and the National Youth Leadership Forum (www.nylf.org).
LeadAmerica Healthcare Conference
An event that brings high-school students throughout the Nation together to explore the fields of medicine and healthcare.  Students have the opportunity to work on robotic simulators that look and respond like real patients, as well as learn more about the importance of being a member of a healthcare team.

This event is a partnership with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, the Congressional Student Leadership Conference, and LeadAmerica Youth Leadership Conferences (www.lead-america.org/conferences/cslc/medicine.asp).

Kid's First Health Fair
A family-focused health fair that prepares children to begin school by providing no cost medical services to children of limited-income families in Lake County.

Children in kindergarten through ninth grade receive no cost physical exams, immunizations, foot and shoe assessments, physical therapy and nutrition screenings, as well as information on behavioral health issues.  Families also receive application assistance for All-Kids, the State of Illinois health insurance program for children.


Last year, over 600 families and 1,700 children received services.  The event takes place in August at Miguel Juarez Middle School (201 N. Butrick, Waukegan, IL  60085). 

This event is a partnership with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center (www.lakecountyil.gov/health),
and the United Way of Lake County (www.uwlakeco.org).  
Mini-Medical School 
Sponsored by Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, this event provides an educational opportunity to the residents of Lake County to learn more about their health and the health of their family members.

Presentations are conducted by medical and healthcare professionals at the University.  Topics discussed in past sessions include nutrition, diabetes, arthritis, and stroke.
 

 
OUTREACH FOR HEALTHREACH  

Outreach for HealthReach is an interprofessional effort sponsored by the University through the College of Health Professions to screen local residents for chronic healthcare issues.  Residents who are identified as needing care are referred to the HealthReach Clinic in Waukegan or Mundelein through an established partnership.
