1. Serve as a resource person for students. Discuss and share information to students regarding RFUMS’s support services and campus programs. 2. Be available to talk to students about any concerns they may have in a non judgmental and supportive manner. 3. On rare occasions a M.M.P. Mentor might need to meet with a student in his/her residence hall or home, however meetings should be planned on campus if at all possible. 4. It is suggested that each M.M.P. Mentor meet once quarterly with the Advisor. If a Mentor cannot maintain his/ her meeting time and date, then the Advisor should be made aware of the situation before the meeting date and time and a new meeting will then be established. 5. It is suggested that Mentors get involved with other organizations as time permits. 6. We may also be working closely with the Admissions Office when prospective students come to campus to visit. 7. Mentors will also maintain a good working rapport with all areas of the Division of Student Affairs and other service-oriented programs and organizations on campus. 8. M.M.P. Mentors are asked to acquaint their students with all administrative staff and faculty who may assist them at some point during their matriculation and transition. 9. We are asking for at least a one-year commitment to the program. 10. It is strongly encouraged that each Mentor maintains an overall grade point average of at least 2.5. We stress academics first. DUTIES OF M.M.P. MENTORS 1. Each M.M.P. Mentor will be assigned a certain number of students based on the number of newly enrolled multicultural students. 2. It is suggested that each Mentor contact his/her students a minimum of once every two weeks. 3. Each M.M.P. Mentor is requested to meet with the Advisor once per quarter. 5. Each M.M.P. Mentor is requested to attend every general M.M.P. meeting. 6. M.M.P. Mentors are expected to help their students adjust to campus life both academically and socially. If a student needs assistance otherwise then the M.M.P. Mentor should refer him/her to the appropriate resources or personnel. 7. All M.M.P. Mentors are required to cooperate with each other and act within the best interest of the students, the organization, and RFUMS. QUARTERLY MEETINGS At the beginning of each quarter an individual meeting time will set up between the Advisor and the M.M.P. Mentors. After the M.M.P. Mentor has selected his/her day and time, these will be his/her assigned times to meet. These meetings will usually last anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. During the individual meeting, the Advisor will ask open-ended questions about each student. The M.M.P. Mentor should respond with facts and his/her perceptions about each student when deemed necessary. The Advisor and M.M.P. Mentor should come up with solutions and alternatives to assist the student. Adjustment is a continuous process; therefore, a continual check should be made of the students’ progress. If a major problem comes up, the Advisor should be informed immediately. At the end of every quarter each Mentor will be asked to evaluate the program with the Advisor.
