Financial Aid
Financial Aid will work with you to ensure you receive the necessary funding for your educational expenses. All new student borrowers are required to participate in a loan entrance interview. Loan entrance interviews are typically held in groups during orientation or in the first week of classes. Individual appointments are available, if you wish, to meet with a financial aid counselor to discuss credit repair, your personal budget, or review the terms of your student loans. We look forward to meeting you! If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Financial Aid Office at 847-578-3217 or Visit the Financial Aid Website
Financing your Education Federal student loans are available to U.S. citizen or permanent residents of the U.S. who are in good academic standing and enrolled at least half-time. Federal loans are disbursed through the University and serviced by a private loan servicer. Living on a student budget The following is advice from the American Medical Association. It is good advice for any graduate student! Develop a realistic budget and stick to it. Spending (and therefore borrowing) less now means you will have more money to spend in the future. Think of ways to cut corners. You can cut costs by having roommates, cooking at home, using public transportation, borrowing CDs from friends, etc. Seemingly small costs add up, especially if you have to borrow money to pay for them. Start, or continue, a savings plan. Even putting a modest amount of money away each month is a good way to discipline yourself and to make sure you have an "emergency" fund that can stand between you and more high interest loans. Borrow only what you need. Do a careful analysis of your expenses and possible sources of revenue. If you can limit your borrowing to only major expenses, like tuition and fees, you will be less likely to be wasteful when it comes to other expenses. Also, the less you borrow, the less you need to pay in origination fees and repayment interest charges. Get creative about funding and only borrow what you need. Keep good records and pay attention. If you have undergraduate loans, you should already know about the importance of careful record-keeping and staying in touch with lenders. Repayment and loan management is your responsibility.
