The objective of the Office of Student Housing, within the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, is to support students in their efforts at RFUMS. We understand that becoming a healthcare professional challenges an individual on many levels and we utilize that understanding to better meet the needs of our students. Likewise, in a community focused on learning, our students are able to put their best efforts forth toward their professional and personal development. Because we understand that your experience is much more than what happens in the classroom, rest assured that we offer a thriving community. The Office of Student Housing staffs each building with a Community Manager to assist with transition issues, resources, etc. The Community Manager is a RFUMS student as well and works to build community in the apartment building and in the Student Housing complex. Expect the Community Manager to plan exciting programs and other community building initiatives each month that you can take part in. Currently, RFUMS has housing available for 240 students on campus in one and two bedroom apartments. If you are interested in exploring living on campus, please visit our Student Housing Website. If you have already contracted to live in Student Housing on campus, please become familiar with the Residence Life Handbook and be sure you have scheduled a Move in Appointment with our Coordinator of Student Housing, Jennifer Smith.
Student Housing Network Internet Access:
The University provides access to high-speed internet/intranet service through the University's network. This service is provided in all apartments to include access connections in all living rooms and bedrooms. This service is provided at no charge to resident students. A computer is not included in tuition or fees at this time, so students are required to bring their own desktop or laptop computer to access this service. Access to the Internet is provided primarily for academic and/or research purposes, but can also be used for legal personal use. As such, connection to the Internet is limited to the standard ports that are used for viewing web pages and downloading information.
Students wishing to access the campus network will find a blue network jack in the living room and bedroom of each apartment. The network ports are disabled prior to your arrival. Students wishing to access the internet from their apartments must first inform the IT helpdesk. Only after a Helpdesk technician has verified that the system has the latest service packs, security updates and antivirus software installed will the network jack be enabled. Any student apartment network connection that is found to be accessing the Internet in an unacceptable manner willl be disabled. Contract action may be immposed as an outcome of further investigaion or the port may be re-enabled. Examples of unacceptable use of the network connection include the following: dowloading copyrighted content without the permission of the author, establishing peer to peer (P2P) connections for the purpose of sharing copyrighted materials, establishing a Virtual Private Nework (VPN) to another Internet site, hosting a web site for the student apartments, and playing interactive internet games.
Wireless networking is currently not available in the student apartments.
Student Housing Telephone Access:
Each apartment is equipped with telephone connections which operate all standard telephones. It is the responsibility of the student resident to provide their own telephones, and to make arrangements to secure a calling card to connect with off-campus and long distance numbers. On campus telephone service includes emergency on-campus telephone access, 911 service, voice mail and all incoming calls. Phone lines are provided in-room, using the following jack colors:
White: Analog line for standard telephone
Yellow: Analog lines are provided for service modem support (ie., staellite dish phone line).
Voicemail is provided by the University for most on-campus phones. Students need to dial x4700 to access voicemail.
