RTA/CTA TRANSIT CHECK PROGRAM
Under the provisions of the “Qualified Transportation Fringe” of the IRS Code, Section 132 (f), employees can elect to have up to $115.00 per month ($1,380.00 per year) deducted from their pay (pre-tax) to help pay for public transit costs. This allows employees to use pre-tax gross income to pay for their qualified commuting expenses. This could result in a tax savings per year of $400.00 or more depending on your particular situation.
If you elect to participate, the amount you select is deducted from your pay and you receive an RTA transit check monthly to purchase your passes on CTA, METRA, PACE, the South Shore, or Van Pools.
You must complete the RTA/CTA Transit Check Deduction Form found under “Employee Forms” and return the completed form to the Human Resources Office. Your deduction will begin the 1st pay period after Human Resources receives your completed form and you will be able to use your transit check to help pay your commuter costs beginning after the first full month of deductions. For example, if your deductions begin in April 2008, then you will receive your first transit check in late May to purchase your June 2008 fare cards.
The University provides a shuttle van service between the University and the Lake Bluff train station (Union Pacific North). There is no van service on weekends or holidays. Check with Security for the current shuttle schedule.
