 Application Process

We are pleased that you are considering applying to the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS). To simplify and facilitate the admissions process, our program participates in the Physical Therapy Centralized Application Service (PTCAS), a service of the American Physical Therapy Association. It is the applicant’s responsibility to complete and follow all PTCAS and RFUMS application policies and procedures.

Applications are available through PTCAS beginning July 2, 2012. Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete the application as well as additional ancillary requirements as early as possible. The University also requires a $35.00 application processing fee. Please see the Application Checklist for further details.

Once the applicant has submitted a complete application to PTCAS, it will undergo verification by the service prior to its forwarding onto the Office of Enrollment Services at RFUMS.

Once PTCAS forwards a completed application to RFUMS, the University Office of Enrollment Services will send the applicant a verification email. The applicant will also receive information with regard to electronic supplemental fee payment. Once the Office of Enrollment Services receives the completed PTCAS application,  the applicant’s GRE scores, and required letters of recommendation submitted through PTCAS, and supplemental fee, the application file is considered complete and will be forwarded to the Department of Physical Therapy for review.

2012 Application Deadlines

          Early Decision Deadline -  August 15th, 2012
          Final Deadline -  December 3rd, 2012

It is of the applicant's best interest to submit all materials as early as possible.

Early Decision
Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science will participate in Early Decision (ED). ED is a binding option for applicants who wish to secure acceptance to one ED participating PTCAS program by September 25, 2012. Applicants are allowed to apply to additional schools only if not accepted following the ED period. All PTCAS and RFUMS application requirements must be met by the August 15, 2012 deadline. See PTCAS  for additional information.

Applications are reviewed by the Department of Physical Therapy Admissions Committee, who evaluate the overall qualities of the candidate. Specific areas of consideration include but are not limited to: academic performance and scholarly activities, GRE scores, knowledge and understanding of the profession, personal motivation, interpersonal skills, community service activities, evidence of exposure to physical therapy practice, and letters of recommendation. Qualified applicants are offered and required to attend an on-campus small group interview to assess interpersonal and communication skills, maturity, and commitment to a career as a physical therapist. The group interview format allows the applicant the opportunity to display his or her communication skills, ability to contribute to a group discussion through interaction with other applicants, knowledge, and problem-solving ability. In addition to the interview session and the completion of a critical thinking examination, the on-campus interview date also allows the candidate an opportunity to tour the University’s facilities, to meet Program faculty, and to speak with alumni and current students of the program.

Candidate selection begins after the completion of the first interview date and continues until the class is filled. Applicants are then invited to be placed on a waiting list.  Offers of acceptance are extended to candidates on the waiting list if a candidate from the accepted class list withdraws from the program. Offers of acceptance to waitlist candidates often continue into May prior to student orientation as additional openings become available. It is to an applicant’s advantage to submit a completed application as early as possible.

Once an offer of acceptance is made by the program, the applicant will have a designated amount of time to accept or decline the offer.  An acceptance must be accompanied by a non-refundable $500 tuition deposit in order to hold the applicant's place in the class. The applicant must also agree to submit to a criminal background check before matriculation.

For further information you may contact the Office of CHP Admissions at 847-578-3209 or email grad.admissions@rosalindfranklin.edu. You may also contact the Department of Physical Therapy directly at (847) 578-3307 or e-mail your request to betty.melton@rosalindfranklin.edu, Physical Therapy Department Admissions Administrator.
