Description of Practicum: This externship is a new program in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Chicago for the academic year 2005-2006. In addition, opportunities exist to work with other DSM-IV diagnoses (e.g. mood disorders and Axis II disorders). Treatment will be mostly cognitive-behavioral, but externs may also develop skills providing treatment from a more integrated perspective. Externs will gain experience in individual and group psychotherapy. All externs will be expected to participate in departmental training activities and seminars, including weekly clinic staffings. Externs will also have the opportunity to participate in a brain imaging and affective neuroscience research program investigating the neurobiology of anxiety disorders. Individual and group supervision will be provided by a licensed clinical psychologist.
