Warren Township Youth Services

Type: School-aged children, adolescents, adults, couples and families

Setting: Community Mental Health Center

Location: Warren Township Youth and Family Services, 17801 W. Washington St., Gurnee, IL 60031

Description of Practicum:  This agency provides personality assessment, intelligence testing, and short- and long-term individual and group psychotherapy.

Practicum Requirements:  The student must be a 2nd or higher year in the psychology program, or have had experience conducting therapy at master’s or doctoral level. Students are expected to have completed coursework in the areas of: Child and Adolescent Development, Family Therapy, Couples Therapy, Intelligence and Objective Testing, CBT, and Ethics (Coursework may be concurrent with practicum year).

Supervision:  The clinical supervisor will provide direct face-to-face supervision, consisting of a minimum of two hours per week including group and individual as well as on-call crisis support as needed. Students will attend monthly staff consultation. The supervisor will review audio/videotaped sessions and provide weekly feedback on students’ progress.

Didactic Training Opportunities: Practicum students are encouraged to attend agency-sponsored monthly didactic presentations as well as relevant monthly Round Table discussions and consultations. During the training year, students are expected to prepare quarterly formal case presentations and complete at least two didactic presentations on relevant clinical topics.
