The research interests of the faculty are diverse and assure that students obtain a well-rounded exposure to both traditional and modern interdisciplinary approaches of scientific inquiry. Nearly all of the faculty direct their own independent research programs funded by research grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and other federal and private funding agencies.

The program in Cell Biology and Anatomy is housed in the research wing of the Chicago Medical School. This modern facility is well-equipped for research in biomedical ciences. Major instrumentation for research in cell biology and anatomy includes: cell culture facilities, live cell imaging confocal microscope facility, electron microscopy, computer-assisted image analysis systems, preparative and ultracentrifuges, protein sequencing, equipment for DNA sequencing and oligonucleotide synthesis, electrophoresis systems and electrophysiology equipment.

There are conference and seminar rooms for the active seminar series, journal clubs and other departmental events. There is a well staffed modern AALAC approved animal facility in the basic science research building. In addition the university has a cafeteria, student lounge/snack area, faculty lounge, and work-out facility. The university library is well maintained and provides access to hard copy journals and numerous electronic journals and publications. Computer access is available throughout the school and a large number of computer terminals are available for student use in the library, computer center and department.
