The James Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) is an academic acute inpatient and outpatient facility with medical and surgical capabilities. The hospital also includes acute and long term mental health units substance abuse program, extended care services (including nursing home, palliative and hospice care) and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation programs. The main mission of the institution is excellent patient care, education and research. The hospital utilizes an advanced electronic health record that includes information from veterans and Navy beneficiaries; this system provides ready access to all inpatient and outpatient medical records, including laboratory and radiographic information from both local and national sources. Electronic medical databases are incorporated into the electronic health record. Geriatrics, mental health and rehabilitation teaching is enhanced by exposure to a diverse patient population in specialized settings staffed by highly specialized providers. All residents have access to a library with an extensive database of print and online materials as well as conference rooms with up to date technology that facilitate interactive educational programs. This facility will provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care to a diverse population of veterans, new recruits, active duty and retired military personnel, and dependents of all ages and both sexes.
