Recommended Reading in Neurology clerkship 2007-8

  • ONE RECOMMENDED textbook/paperback, Clinical Neurology (Lange Series) by Michael Aminoff, David Greenberg, Roger Simon, 6th edition, 2005, loaned to each student at the beginning of the rotation and returned to the Clerkship Coordinator and Clerkship Director on the Final Day.

HOWEVER, in order to hit or exceed the mean on the SHELF exam the student will need to have amassed a more expanded fund of knowledge than the recommended primer.  Some suggestions in order to do very well on the SHELF and in the clinical rotation:

  • It is STRONGLY suggested to read all the supplemental readings from Blueprints Clinical Cases in Neurology loaned to each student at the beginning of the clerkship rotation and returned to the Clerkship Coordinator and Clerkship Director on the Final Day.

This educational material has vignettes and answers that are organized into a binder with sections entitled Altered Consciousness, Cerebrovascular, Demyelinating, Headache, Infectious, Neurodegenerative/Movement Disorders, Neuromuscular, Pediatrics, Seizures, Sleep Disorders, and Vertigo.

The shelf exam is made up l00% of vignettes of topics in this set of supplemental readings.

The student should be sure to read about some of the material NOT covered much in Clinical Neurology such as the common congenital and developmental pediatric conditions, diagnosis and treatment of the meningidities and encephalidities and other conditions.

  • We ask students at the end of every rotation to tell us what they used to study.  These include:
