Who can participate in the ASRC?

  • Students in each of the four schools at RFUMS, SGPS, SCPM, CMS, CHP, and COP as well as postdoctoral fellows, clinical residents, fellows and research interns are invited to participate.  All are invited to present posters; however, spaces for talks will be reserved for RFUMS students only.

What kind of research can be presented?

  • Both clinical and basic science research is acceptable to be presented at the ASRC.  You do not have to have positive findings (i.e. that there was a difference between two groups or a drug did have an effect) to present your data.

Does my research have to have been done on the RFUMS campus?

  • No.  Your research may have been conducted elsewhere, as long as you were involved in the project, you can present the data.

What are the types of presentation formats?

  • There are two types of presentation formats, Talk and Poster. Talks will take place as three simultaneous sessions throughout the afternoon. There will be three 90-minute sessions with five talks apiece (10 min talk + 5 min for questions). Posters will be displayed throughout the day with presentations taking place for two hours.

If my abstract is not chosen for a talk, can I still present a poster?

  • Yes.  By checking the "Talk and Poster" box on the Abstract Submission Form, you indicate that your abstract should be considered for a poster presentation if not selected for a talk.

How do I prepare an abstract/poster/talk?

Do my results have to be published to be presented?

  • No. Your results DO NOT have to be published to be presented.

How do I submit my abstract?

  • The Abstract Submission Form can be emailed to GSA@rfums.org (Please read the Instructions before submission!). Both can be found on the For Participants page.

What if my project is not complete but is a work in progress?

  • Both completed research projects AND works in progress are eligible for submission and presentation at the ASRC.

Can I present a poster I’ve presented elsewhere?

  • Yes.  You can present the exact same poster that you presented elsewhere (i.e. SFN or Summer Research Fellow Poster Session)

Do I have to print out a 3’x5’ glossy poster?

  • No.  You can create the different parts of your poster in PowerPoint, and post the printed slides.

What are the size restrictions for posters?

  • Posters must fit in a 40” x 60” space and be secured with pushpins (pins and boards provided by the ASRC). Posters larger than 40" x 60" will not be accepted.

What if I can’t be present on campus the day of the ASRC?

  • Unfortunately, we can only accept abstracts if the presenting author will be present to speak for her/his work at the ASRC event, and we will not display posters whose authors are not present.

Where can I get a large glossy poster printed/who pays for poster printing?

  • If you wish to print a large glossy poster, you may use the RFUMS Creative Media Center. Please allow adequate production time for creation of your poster. - See Creative Media Center's Production Timeline.

If you wish to use an external service, consider www.makesigns.com. Remember to submit your order at least one week before ASRC to allow adequate production time if using an external service.

Currently, you are responsible for the cost of printing your poster if you choose to have one printed.  Please keep in mind, large posters are not required!

What are the judging criteria? Will I get to see my marks on the evaluation form?

Can I submit more than one abstract?

  • No. Due to space considerations, only one poster will be accepted per presenter.

Can I present a poster if I am giving a talk?

  • Yes. You must present a poster if you are giving a talk, check the Poster and Talk box on the Abstract Submission Form. If you are not selected for a talk, you will automatically be considered to present only a poster.

When will I know if my abstract is accepted?

  • You will be notified of the status of your submission via email.
