Keeping up to date with Research regulations and guidelines is everyone’s responsibility. The RFUMS Institutional Review Board (IRB) requires that individuals have annual training in order to be certified to do research. All individuals engaging in research on humans, including Principal Investigators, Co-Investigators, Research Staff, and IRB Committee Members, must complete an appropriate training program on a yearly basis. Research submissions cannot be reviewed by the IRB unless PIs and their research staff have had training within the past year. CITI is a required training module:
Please note that the first page of this training module is labeled "Continuing Cancer Education Curriculum for Health Professionals." Choose the "Register" link, and, once you have created a username and password, login and select the course entitled, "Human Participant Protections Education for Research Teams." Completion of this module will provide a certificate for the trainee, which the researcher should keep on file and a copy of which must be submitted to the IRB Administrator. In addition to requiring researchers to complete human participant research training, the RFUMS IRB requires all members of the IRB to be trained and suggests the online training module at http://ohsr.od.nih.gov/IRBCBT/intro.html. Documentation of such training must be placed on file with the IRB Administrator, 847-578-8713.
