Schweppe Grant Awards for CMS Faculty
Faculty members who obtain extramural grant funding and charge a percentage of their salary to the grant are eligible to participate in the Salary Savings Plan. The Salary Savings Plan returns the fraction of money defrayed (salary and fringe) by extramural grants as indicated (Table). The faculty member who generates the savings will receive one-half and the faculty member’s Department will receive the other one-half. It is intended that the funds will be used for departmental and faculty development at the discretion of the Chair. A decision; which may be made annually, to return less than one-half to participating faculty members within a department; should be determined by a democratic process involving the contributing faculty.

Funds returned to the faculty members are intended for research, professional development or other academic purposes, but not for salary supplements. The Business Office will provide participating faculty members with a unique account number and standard monthly statements. The Salary Savings Plan may also be referred to as University Supported Research. The funds within these accounts may be carried over from year to year with no temporal restrictions.
