My research focuses on relationships between violence exposure and trauma in childhood (e.g., child abuse and neglect, community violence exposure, family violence) and risky behavior later in life (e.g., risky sexual behavior, drug use, HIV risk), particularly in adolescence. I am interested in examining multivariate models that explain developmental pathways from early risk factors to risk behavior and use structural equation modeling to test such models. I am currently conducting a project to assess history of trauma and violence exposure and examine pathways from violence exposure to risky sexual behavior in a sample of urban African American girls in mental health treatment.
