Monday morning, I met with one of the leaders at the Federal Health Care Center. They, too, have offered their support in the accreditation process. We should take a step back and remember that, while all our affiliates and partners are standing by us in this time of greatest need, it will be incumbent upon us to show them, in an on-going fashion, the value and respect that they deserve from CMS.
On another note, Monday was the CMS Curriculum Retreat. It was attended by faculty, students, interprofessional educator colleagues, dean staff and curriculum office personnel. The group focused work on two of the educational standards, ED 1 (Competencies) and ED 33 (Central Curriculum Management). It was a hardworking group and we made great strides, particularly in coming up with a draft of the work effort that needs to be completed for the Dec. 15 submission of the ED1 standard to the LCME.
Finally, the LCME secretariats, Drs. Hunt and Barzansky, arrived on campus to meet with President Welch, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Margot Surridge, Dean of CHP and VP for Academic Affairs Dr. Wendy Rheult and myself. We discussed our goal of collaborating with the secretariats to get the best understanding of how we could, not only successfully meet the standards with which we are out of compliance, but also to eventually exceed the standards. The meeting was an excellent start to what will be an important and informative visit for us.
