Frequently Asked Questions from New Online Education Students… How do I know if I am eligible for Federal Financial Aid? You must be enrolled as a matriculated student at least half-time to qualify for Federal student aid. Half-time is defined as 6 credit hours per quarter. You must be a US citizen or permanent resident to qualify for Federal aid. Is there anything available if I am enrolled in less than 6 credit hours? Contact the Business Office for tuition payment arrangements, including credit card options. If you wish to learn about private loans that may be available, contact the Financial Aid Office. When will I know if I qualify for Financial Aid? You will receive a Financial Aid Notification shortly before your academic year begins. If you have any questions on your eligibility, you may call the Financial Aid Office. What type of Financial Aid may I receive? Distance Learning students may receive subsidized and unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans. Subsidized Stafford Loans are interest free while you are enrolled at least half-time, and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans begin to accrue interest from the date of disbursement. What expenses will Financial Aid cover? Tuition and books. Tuition is $465 per credit hour (subject to change) and you may request up to $150 per course for books and supplies. Can I pay my student account (ie tuition) with a credit card? Yes, however please be aware that Financial Aid is not available for those who choose to pay their bill via credit card. Contact the Business Office for details. What if I take a leave of absence during my studies? You will not be eligible for Financial Aid during any period of absence. Once you graduate, withdraw, or drop below half-time status, your loans will enter a grace period of 6 months. Once your grace it up, you will need to apply for a deferment or enter repayment. Once you have used your grace, you cannot reestablish a grace period. We require any student considering a Leave of Absence to contact the Financial Aid Office. I still have a lot of questions, may I schedule an appointment for an in-person entrance interview? Yes. We will request that you complete the online entrance interview before scheduling your appointment with our office. I live away from campus, but I would still like to speak with a counselor about my entrance interview. Do I need an appointment? While you can always call or e-mail us with your questions, it is often better to schedule a phone appointment so a period of time may reserved for your questions.
