This international program between Birkbeck, University of London, and Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, IL, will provide intense training in X-ray crystallography or Bioinformatics.
The international program provides a unique blend of an MRes from Birkbeck with a PhD from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. The first year is spent in North Chicago, where core classes are taken in Molecular and Cell Biology. The student rotates through a number of laboratories and within the first year, selects a research advisor and project. The second year of studies is at the School of Crystallography at Birkbeck, University of London, where the student takes intense training in either X-ray Crystallography/cryoEM or Bioinformatics, with special consideration of the student's PhD thesis project.
The student fulfills all of the requirements for a MRes from Birkbeck including the defense of their thesis. In the final years, the student returns to Rosalind Franklin University and completes the experimental portion of the PhD thesis, then writes and defends the thesis for completion of the PhD/MRes combined degree.
