COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The YWCA Empowerment Day for Girls is a hands-on, educational event where over 100 middle school girls from the North Chicago, Waukegan, and Zion-Benton School Districts participate in a one-day conference that exposes them to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

This event is a partnership between Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, the YWCA of Lake County, and the Lake County Regional Office of Education. Learn more about this event by reading the Empowerment Day for Girls article.

Medical Physicist

What is a Medical Physicist?

"Medical physicists contribute to the effectiveness of radiological imaging procedures by assuring radiation safety and helping to develop improved imaging techniques (e.g., mammography CT, MR, ultrasound). They contribute to development of therapeutic techniques (e.g., prostate implants, stereotactic radiosurgery), collaborate with radiation oncologists to design treatment plans, and monitor equipment and procedures to insure
that cancer patients receive the prescribed dose of radiation to the correct location (www.aapm.org)."
