Research interests

Formulation based cognitive behavioral treatment of anxiety and affective disorders. Assessment and treatment of Domestic Violence. Development of formulation based cognitive behavioral interventions for perpetrators of domestic violence taking into consideration empirically documented typologies. Development of culturally sensitive interventions. Management and leadership issues in Clinical Psychology.

I have trained and practised clinical psychology in Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States and am licensed to practice in New York and Illinois,  and Chartered by the British Psychological Society. Over the past four years I have been working as Head of Psychology and Counselling and Director of Mental Health Services in Gibraltar where I was tasked with steering a multidisciplinary mental health team in developing and implementing a comprehensive mental health strategy for the Citizens of Gibraltar. This included the development of a Primary Care Counselling and Psychology Services.

My previous experience includes substantial clinical work with the severely and persistently mentally ill population, child abuse, domestic viiolence, court mandated treatment for perpetrators of domestic violence, forensic assessment,  diagnostic evaluations with court placed adolescents, and cognitive behavioural treatment of affective and anxiety disorders including exposure and response prevention programs in obsessive compulsive disorder.

I have also made presentations at international meetings in several countries including a workshop on the assessment and treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder at the World Congress of Behavior Therapy held in Acapulco in 1998. I hold affiliations with Univesities in Spain: Granada and Huelva and have also taught in a Masters program at La Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
