What is ACFAS?

The American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) is a professional society of 5,500 podiatric foot and ankle surgeons. Founded in 1942, ACFAS' goals are to promote the art and science of podiatric surgery, address the issues and concerns of the podiatric surgeon, and advance and improve standards of education and surgical skill.

ACFAS members reflect a high level of professional foot care, training and education. With a focus on preventive care and conservative treatment, members provide high quality, comprehensive care of the lower extremity.

ACFAS physicians are doctors of podiatric medicine who are graduates of accredited U.S. podiatric medical schools. ACFAS members have completed surgical residency programs of up to four years, and the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, the surgical board for foot and ankle surgery recognized by the Joint Committee on the Recognition of Specialty Boards, certifies all Fellows of the College. Many have additional fellowship training in various aspects of foot and ankle surgery. All ACFAS members are dedicated to surgical excellence in the treatment of foot and ankle disorders.

The ACFAS student chapter here at Rosalind Franklin University seeks these ends as well as educating students about the organization, profession, and skills of podiatric surgery. ACFAS does this through surgical skills workshops that include suture and anesthetics. ACFAS also sponsors speakers and forums throughout the year.
