State-of-the-Art History Taking and Physical Examination Review:
Improve Your Clinical Efficiency
March 7-8, 2008

The Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University will host the annual continuing education activity, State-of-the-Art History Taking and Physical Examination Review, on March 7-8, 2008, to offer podiatric professionals an opportunity to improve clinical efficiency.
This certificate program was developed in response to requests from podiatric physicians who want to refine and enhance their skills in performing history and physical examinations on admitted patients.  The program is based on a course taken by students at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science.
By the end of the seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Perform a concise yet comprehensive history and physical examination on the preoperative patient.
  • Use appropriate communication skills to build a trusting doctor-patient relationship.
  • Identify abnormal findings that would require consultation.
  • Obtain accurate vital signs.
  • Examine the head, eyes, ears, nose and throat.
  • Examine the lungs, cardiovascular system and pulses, and abdomen.
  • Examine the musculoskeletal and neurological systems of the upper and lower extremities.
  • Be able equate the findings from a pre-operative or admission H & P to the patients surgical risk.
  • Understand the federal and state rulings regarding Podiatric Physicians performing admission and pre-operative H & P's

The program includes required reading prior to attending the program, a pretest on these studies and a review; then lectures, demonstrations and hands-on labs on each of the areas/systems examined.  Standardized patients provide for a realistic patient encounter.  Scholl College grants 18 continuing education contact hours for this course.
Rooms are limited and reservations are required by February 19, 2008, so make reservations early.  For further information, call 847-578-8410, fax 847-775-6521 or e-mail Ellie.Wydeven@rosalindfranklin.edu.
