SGPS Mission and Strategic Plan

The primary mission of SGPS is

  • Provide graduate education to meet the need for highly qualified biomedical researchers and teachers in the rapidly expanding health care fields. 
  • To provide graduate education for specialized clinical and administrative services in health care.
  • Provide opportunities for practicing health professions to keep abreast of new developments, methodologies and research experiences.
  • Graduate scientists whose future research will contribute to advanced biomedical science, thereby enhancing the human condition

          Key Measures

Goal 1. The School will be recognized as a national institution of choice for preparing students and professionals for a career in the biomedical sciences.
 
S1-1      Development of an Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences. 
Performance Measures: Establishment of a recruitment process, matriculation process, core curriculum, with specialized courses, and a format for identification of research advisors by the students. Separate to the IGPBS program, a defined MS program needs to be developed.
Leadership Accountability: M. Sarras, R. Intine 

S1-1 UPDATE       Completed 2006

S1-2.  Development of a complete oversight process to ensure that students entering the school have the highest potential for success in a timely manner.
Performance Measures: Selection of Advisors completion of the Doctoral Candidacy Exam in a timely manner, oversight by multiple layers of accountability.

S1-2 UPDATE       Completed 2007

S1-3 Development of a doctoral degree program for faculty at RFUMS who wish to advance their career and strengthen their professional goals.
Performance Measure: Development of a complete recruitment, educational, research, and oversight program for individual faculty who enter this doctoral program.
