Dr. Khayr joined CMS/RFUMS in 1993. He is Professor of Medicine since 2005, Infectious Disease Program Director and Medical Director of the PA Department since 1996. He earned his BS in Biology/Chemistry and MD from American University of Beirut. He completed his Infectious Disease Fellowship at University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Khayr is also the Assistant Chief Medical Executive for Academic Affairs and Infectious Disease Section Chief at Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) in North Chicago.
He teaches trainees at different levels and from different healthcare professions in the class room and at the bedside. His Scholarly activity and research focus on healthcare-associated infections and antibiotic resistance, and has multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals. He sits on multiple committees including the Dean’s Committee at FHCC and CMS Admission Committee at RFUMS, and chairs the TB Board at Lake County Department of Health.
