Khyati Patel, PharmD, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice, joined the department in late July 2012. Dr. Patel obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree with Magna Cum Laude honors from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2011. She completed a post graduate year-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital, Hines, IL (2011-2012). She has acquired various teaching and precepting experiences as a student and as a resident. Throughout her career Dr. Patel has served the pharmacy profession by assuming active membership roles in American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, American Pharmacists Association, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society, Rho Chi Honors Society, and other Illinois pharmacy affiliations. Besides participation in the Student Promotions, Evaluation and Awards Committee as a faculty, Dr. Patel will also serve as a co-advisor of the APhA-ASP chapter at the COP. Along with her role as a clinical faculty at the COP, Dr. Patel will practice and precept experiential students as an Ambulatory Care Pharmacist at the Aurora Medical Center, Kenosha, WI. With this novel position at the ambulatory clinic, Dr. Patel strives to establish pharmacy practice in management of diabetes and expand to management of hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and anticoagulation. The practice will also focus on enhancement of patient education and involvement into self-care.
