The Setting

New Health Sciences Building

The University's main campus is in North Chicago, Illinois.  The Basic Science Building is a 350,000 square foot basic science/instructional complex occupying 40 acres and is specifically designed for research and teaching.  In addition to the University's administrative center, there are multiple research and teaching laboratories, conference rooms and classrooms, a computer center, the University library (with over 93,000 volumes and 1,000 journals), audiovisual laboratories and TV studio, a 950-seat auditorium, two large lecture halls, recreational areas, a dining room, and cafeteria.  All computing facilities are directly connected to the Internet and all students are provided with e-mail accounts.

In July 2002, RFUMS completed its new 140,000 square foot Health Sciences Building located on the North Chicago Campus.  Built of the same aggregate precast as the University's Basic Science Building and with a connecting bridge between the two buildings, it is home to departmental offices, classrooms and students from each of the four schools that comprise RFUMS.  The Health Sciences Building also includes auditoriums, classrooms and labs, student amenities (fitness center, student lockers, recreational game room, Student Center, Rathskellar kitchen, lounge and TV area, University Book Store and student mailboxes), and various administrative offices (e.g., Admissions, Registrars Office and Financial Aid).

In August 2002, the Department of Psychology relocated to the University's new Health Sciences Building.  The Psychology Department is currently housed on the third floor. The Departments 10,000 square feet of space includes faculty offices, lab space for each faculty member, shared departmental research lab space and a student common area.

In July 2003, the University opened a set of newly built student housing apartments.  Details about student housing can be found: Here.
