Sharyl E. Balkin, MD

Clinical Assistant Professor & Learning Community Mentor

Dr. Sharyl Balkin is a board certified psychiatrist who has been practicing for over 25 years. She received her medical degree from Chicago Medical School and completed her residency at the University of Chicago. She was a Learning Community Mentor for the CMS Class of 2015. 

At the University of Chicago, Dr. Balkin was awarded an AOA membership for teaching excellence. She also received a Dean of Students Award at CMS. She has been Medical Director of a mind-body program and of Women’s Psychiatry. She was the past president of the Woman Physicians group in Chicago. 

Dr. Balkin has been married to her husband, Larry, for over 30 years. They have two children, Adina and Michael. Michael just completed his MD degree as a third-generation CMS alumnus. She has two Great Dane brindle puppies, Piper and Lily. She loves kayaking, hiking, boxing and gardening.
