Rising Up

Teaching & Learning

Devonte Sadler, SCPM ’27, offers friendship, companionship and leadership in his role as class president in the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. His responsibilities include being a liaison between classmates and faculty, as well as making sure his cohort is informed on resources and opportunities available to them. A natural team player, Mr. Sadler enjoys “rising up and motivating classmates to reach their dreams and goals.”

He is also passionate about advocating for his profession. “A lot of people think we just cut toenails and prescribe orthotics, but that’s not the case,” he says. “Podiatry is very much a surgical specialty.” It’s a point he likes to make to help clear up misconceptions about his field.

We asked him to show us a day in his life.

8:00 a.m. Practicing operating-room etiquette and suture techniques, so we can shine during upcoming clerkship rotations.
10:30 a.m. In the lab learning how to manufacture custom orthotics specific to our patients’ feet.
1:15 p.m. In a session of orthopedics capstone with my classmates, we apply casts and brace each other to hone our techniques.
3:00 p.m. In Rush’s Oak Park Hospital clinic, we can even observe surgery.
5:00 p.m. I always end the day with a game of fetch with my little pupper, Dakota.

Make a difference for students by investing in scholarships and securing the future of health care.
