RFUMS Center for Interprofessional Evidence-Based Practice

An Affiliate Center of the Joanna Briggs Institute

The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) originated within the University of Adelaide, South Australia and has operated the Joanna Briggs Collaborative ever since its inception in 1996. The JBC’s mission is “to facilitate the synthesis, transfer and implementation of the best available evidence to ensure the feasibility, appropriateness, meaningfulness and effectiveness of health policy and practice.”

As a JBI Affiliated Group, RFU faculty and students are part of an international collaboration with more than 80 entities across the world, working to accelerate the linkage of scientific evidence to policy and practice. The JBI also collaborates with the Cochrane Review, and uses Cochrane's robust systematic review methodology for synthesis of randomized, controlled trials. JBI has significantly expanded the potential for systematic reviews to influence practice, by developing numerous systematic review methodologies for non-experimental quantitative research designs and qualitative research designs.

What We Do

We joined the Joanna Briggs Collaborative as a JBI Affiliate Group in 2016. Our faculty scholars and graduate health professional students are currently focused on the synthesis of research evidence using the JBI systematic review methodologies and software. This contribution to the production of systematic reviews enhances the educational content of our curriculum and also informs continuing education opportunities offered to our clinical partners. In addition, the strategic alliances that RFU is building with its clinical partners expand the potential reach of the RFU JBI Affiliate Group’s scholarly work.

We have plans to develop a fellowship program to strengthen the connection between the scholarly work of our faculty and students with the needs of our clinical partners. Participants in the fellowship program will also collaborate with our clinical partners to facilitate their goals related to the transfer and implementation of best available evidence.
