Gender Bias Under the Microscope (2016)

The Women in Science and Healthcare (WiSH) inaugural event featured keynote speaker Mahzarin Banaji, PhD, who discussed insights from her book Blindspot on the impact of implicit bias and strategies to overcome it. Featured talks included Sarah S. Richardson on gender bias in genomics and the importance of diversity in biomedical research, and Eileen Pollack on gender disparities in science, based on her book The Only Woman in the Room. Workshops led by experts such as Monica Vela, Jonathan Eisen, Abbie Wazlawek, and Anna Kaatz addressed sexism in medicine, male allyship, negotiation skills, and stereotype threat. The event also included panel discussions on women’s advancement in science and healthcare, and strategies to reduce implicit bias for better outcomes in research and care.
