The Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science 2020 Commencement Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. CDT, Friday, May 29, 2020, at the Credit Union 1 Arena (formerly known as the UIC Pavilion) in Chicago, IL. The Credit Union 1 Arena is located at 525 S. Racine Ave., Chicago, IL 60607, on the University of Illinois-Chicago campus. The Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Graduates will be required to arrive at 8:30 a.m. and the doors will also open to guests at 8:30 a.m. Strollers will not be permitted into the pavilion. Accessible seating will be available in the pavilion for guests in need of accommodation. The University looks forward to welcoming the graduates and their guests in celebration, with over 600 degrees to be conferred.

Watch Commencement Ceremony

Graduate Regalia

All graduates participating in Commencement will be required to purchase regalia through the Herff Jones website between January 15 and April 1, 2020. Purchased gowns will allow the graduate to keep all components of the regalia including the hood, gown, cap and tassel. Regalia will be shipped directly to the graduate at the address specified. Costs for this year's regalia will be posted on the website on January 2, 2020.

Please watch for more information regarding the link to order your regalia in January 2020. Regalia ordered after April 1, 2020, will incur a $25 late fee.

Commencement Speakers

For the 2020 Commencement Ceremony, graduates are invited to submit names of notable individuals for consideration of both the Commencement Speaker and Graduate Salutation.

Commencement Speaker nominees should be individuals whose accomplishments and values are exemplary. All submissions will be reviewed by the Commencement Speaker Committee and final recommendations will be forwarded to the Office of the Provost. All submissions must be received by October 1, 2019, via the Commencement Speaker Nomination Form.

Graduate Salutation nominees will be solicited by each graduating program. The Graduate Salutation will be given by a student graduating in the 2020 Commencement Ceremony, who will deliver a short address to their fellow graduates. Each program will select one nominee from their class to be forwarded to the Commencement Speaker Committee. Final nominees from each program will be required to submit a written draft speech and deliver their speech in-person or via a video recording for the Commencement Speaker Committee. One final selection will be chosen no later than February 1, 2020. Please watch for more information in your email for your program’s nomination form, expected to be released October 1, 2019.

Awards Ceremony

On Thursday, May 28, 2020, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science will host the annual Awards Ceremony in conjunction with Commencement. This year, the ceremony will be at the Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier and will begin at 2 p.m. Graduates who are receiving an award will receive an invitation to this ceremony no later than April 15, 2020. Each awardee will have the opportunity to request four (4) complimentary tickets for guests. Additional tickets will also be available for $25 each and can be ordered on the Ticket Request Form. Each graduate will be asked to submit their request between April 15 and May 1, 2020, if they need to request tickets for the Awards Ceremony or Commencement Reception. All graduate and guest tickets to the Awards Ceremony are also valid for the Commencement Reception immediately following the Awards Ceremony in the Lakeview Terrace at Navy Pier from 3:30–5:30 p.m.

Commencement Reception

On Thursday, May 28, 2020, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science will host the annual Commencement Reception in conjunction with Commencement. This year, the Commencement Reception will be at the Lakeview Terrace at Navy Pier and will begin at 3:30 p.m. Graduates who RSVP on their Ticket Request Form between April 15 and May 1, 2020, will be allowed one complimentary ticket for themselves and one additional ticket for a guest. Additional tickets can be purchased for $25 each on the Ticket Request Form. The Commencement Reception allows you to network with fellow students, university faculty and staff and includes beverages and hors d'oeuvres. If a graduate is an award recipient and is receiving tickets to the Awards Ceremony, they are not eligible for the two complimentary tickets to the Commencement Reception in addition to their Awards Ceremony tickets.

Hotel Accommodations

A hotel block has been established for graduates and their guests. Please make reservations directly with the hotel. Rooms are available now through March 2020. If all available rooms are reserved prior to March 2020, no additional rooms will be available. We encourage all graduates and their families to make arrangements for hotels as soon as possible, as there is a large conference in Chicago the weekend of Commencement.

Composite Photos

Each year, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science assembles a composite photo of each program’s graduating class which is displayed in the hallway of their academic program. All graduates will be asked to have a composite photo taken between now and April 1, 2020. Please watch for more information from your program. If you already have a formal composite photo on file, you may not need to submit your photo. In July 2020, each graduate will be emailed a complimentary digital copy of their class composite photo.
