INTRODUCTION TO NEURORADIOLOGY Senior Intramural Radiology Elective

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital
1775 West Dempster Street
Park Ridge, IL

MRAD 806:  Students will spend 2 weeks at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital (ALGH) and receive instruction under the direct supervision of Alexander Michael, M.D.  There are no off campus assignments and there will be no formal lectures but there will be occasional assignments.  Scheduling instructions will be provided to the student on the first day of rotation. It is required that all students meet Health Insurance, Liability Coverage and HIPAA requirements prior to starting their rotation.  Terminal objectives:  To introduce the student to the different modalities used in diagnostic neuro imaging, including diagnostic procedures, how to select a modality and discussion of many pathologies that afflict the central nervous system, the head and neck and the spine.

Prerequisites:  Students must have completed their third year clerkships and a four-week diagnostic radiology elective prior to being approved for MRAD 806.

Duration: 2 Weeks (maximum 6 rotations offered per year, maximum one rotation per month with maximum 1 student per rotation; no rotation in December).

Applications:  Students may register for the course by completing an Intramural Selective Application Request Form and submit to the CMS Office of Student Affairs (OSA).    Applications will be considered on a ‘first-come, first-served  basis.   Students will be notified by OSA when their applications have been accepted.  Students will be contacted by ALGH's Medical Student Office Representative Tara Murphy with direction on what to bring with you for orientation on Day One, and where to go.

If a student wishes to cancel an approved application, a cancellation notification to the CMS OSA is required and should be done at least four weeks before the beginning of the rotation date.

Enrolled Students:  On the first day of the rotation, students are to report to and check in with the Medical Student Office at 8:30A.M, and ask for Tara Murphy.  The Medical Student Office is located on 6 South of ALGH.  After checking in, students will be taken to meet in the Radiology Department at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, located on the Ground Floor at 1775 West Dempster Street, Park Ridge.  Students will be given a brief orientation and tour of the department by Linda Jordan, Radiology Dept Secretary.  Students must at all times display both the hospital badge and their school ID badge, wear a clean lab coat, maintain professionalism, and must have a presentable physical appearance.  On the last day, before leaving, students must have an exit interview with the course director and return the ALGH badge to Public Safety at ALGH.  Evaluation-Grade sheets will be issued only after the student has completed the exit interview process.   Upon completion of the course, students are to prepare a course evaluation.

Special notes on attendance:

The course is not offered during the month of December.

Students will be excused for the following national holidays (only):  Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.
