DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGY Senior Intramural Elective

MRAD 802:  Students will spend time at Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center (MSH) under the supervision of the course director, Alan Hecht, M.D., Chairman of the MSH Radiology Department.  Hours are 8:30 to 4:30 each day of the rotation, except on days specified by the course director.  Schedule will be discussed with the student on the first day of the rotation.

Duration:  4 Weeks

Applicants:  Students must forward the Intramural Application Request Form to the CMS Office of Student Affairs (OSA) for approval.  Students should include their current phone numbers and email addresses on the applications.  Applications will be considered on a "first-come, first-served, by application" basis only.   Notice of enrollment will be sent to the student by the OSA office.  Notification of enrollment will be sent to the student by the OSA office.

If a student wishes to cancel an approved application, written notification to the CMS Office of Student Affairs (OSA) is required, and must be done  at least four weeks before the beginning of the rotation date.

Enrollees:  Students are to report to the Department of Radiology office (F314) at Mount Sinai Hospital, 15th Street and California Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, at 9:00 A.M. on the first day of their rotation and ask for Maria Guzman.  At that time, the student will be given instructions regarding rotation among attendings and subspecialty areas as well as weekly conference schedules (pediatric radiology, tumor board, internal medicine/radiology rounds, etc.).

Students are to complete all paperwork required by MSH.  At all times, students are to wear lab coats and carry their RFUMS/CMS identification badges in addition to any identification issued and required by MSH.

A short paper or oral presentation covering a topic selected by the student and principal preceptor is required by the end of the rotation in order to receive a passing grade.  Textbooks are available and may be checked out from the Department of Radiology library.   Upon completion of the course, students are required to prepare a student evaluation and email it to sharon.hartwig@rosalindfranklin.edu, Administrative Assistant in the Department of Radiology, CMS, RFUMS.

Special notes on attendance:

Students may be allowed up to two days for interviews or for extracurricular appointments during the chosen four-week rotation, if and when approved by Dr. Hecht (approval must be received prior to the absence), and notification to Sharon Hartwig with the CMS Radiology Department.  (Students who anticipate interviews numbering over the two days of absence allowed should choose a four-week rotation that does not include interviews.) 

Students will be excused on holidays observed by MSH and on days specified by the Dr. Hecht.  Presently, MSH observes the following days:  New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.  If the requested rotation start day (Monday)  falls on one of these holidays, the rotation will begin on the next day (Tuesday).
