A physician assistant (PA) is a medical professional who works as part of a team with a doctor.

PA's are educated and trained to do many of the tasks traditionally performed by physicians. Upon graduation and the successful completion of the National PA Board Exam, PA's are certified by State Medical Boards to function as an extension of a supervising physician. PA's are typically utilized in primary care settings by Family Practice Physicians, but they assist specialists in diverse fields such as Surgery, Orthopedics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Radiology, Pathology, and Internal Medicine. PA's currently provide care to millions of Americans in all types of health care settings: offices, clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities.

Since its inception in 1991, over 800 students have graduated from the Physician Assistant Program at RFUMS. The faculty takes pride in teaching its students to provide competent, compassionate and ethical medical care through dynamic lectures and innovative labs, as well as clinical rotations both in the United States and abroad. Not only have alumni gone on to practice on healthcare teams in a wide range of medical specialties; but, they have also joined the faculty of PA programs around the country and have become state and national leaders within the profession.
