Elisa S. Gallo, MD, FAAD
Elisa S. Gallo, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist with extensive expertise in pediatric and adult medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. She is recognized for her compassionate, patient-centered approach and her commitment to comprehensive, holistic skin care. With particular emphasis on the early detection and prevention of skin cancer, Dr. Gallo’s overarching mission is to enhance her patients’ quality of life through meticulous and individualized dermatologic care.
Dr. Gallo graduated with Honors and High Distinction from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earning dual degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She subsequently completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, followed by a dermatology residency and fellowship at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Her specialized training in pediatric dermatology was undertaken at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Throughout her career, Dr. Gallo has practiced in diverse clinical and academic settings, including the Mayo Clinic Health System, and has provided dermatologic care in underserved communities both domestically and internationally. In recognition of her mentorship and leadership within the field, she received the prestigious Presidential Citation from the American Academy of Dermatology, honoring her for “representing the best our specialty has to offer.”
Dr. Gallo is an active leader in organized medicine and dermatologic scholarship. She has been a member of the Chicago Dermatological Society and the International Transplant Skin Cancer Collaborative. With a strong interest in medical ethics, she was elected to the Judicial Panel of the American Academy of Dermatology. She previously served as Young Physician Reviewer for Dermatology World, authoring a monthly column for colleagues nationwide. She currently serves on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD) and is an Associate Editor—and former JAAD Section Editor—for the Academy’s podcast, “Dialogues in Dermatology.” An accomplished scholar, Dr. Gallo has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters and has received international recognition for her contributions to innovative surgical techniques in dermatology.
Dr. Gallo is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology. Since 2024, she has served as an Associate Professor at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. In this role, she serves as a clinical preceptor in medicine and dermatology teaching the ECR and Schema curricula, and acts as a Learning Community Mentor, providing longitudinal guidance to medical students throughout their training.
