Dr. Subhasis Misra was appointed Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, DIO, and Clinical Faculty Development at Chicago Medical School, effective August 18, 2025.
A surgical oncologist and nationally recognized medical educator, Dr. Misra brings extensive experience in curriculum development, faculty development, and leadership across undergraduate and graduate medical education. His career reflects a strong commitment to medical students, residents, fellows, and allied health learners, earning him multiple recognitions as Faculty of the Year.
Dr. Misra most recently served as the founding program director for the General Surgery Residency at BayCare Health System in Tampa, FL, where he also practiced as a surgical oncologist and held faculty appointments at Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine and the University of South Florida. Previously, he was the founding program director for the General Surgery Residency at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, Medical Director of the Breast Cancer Center at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, and Chair of the Graduate Medical Education Advisory Committee at Brandon Regional Hospital, overseeing nearly 190 residents and fellows across specialties.
In addition to his U.S.-based leadership, Dr. Misra brings a global perspective through his work as a Fulbright Scholar, collaborating with leading institutions in India to implement innovative educational models. He has delivered national and international presentations on medical education and authored more than 70 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in surgery and oncology. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgeon Educators and has been recognized with numerous honors, including the American Cancer Society’s Community Service Award and a $1.5 million grant for colorectal cancer screening in Texas.
Dr. Misra earned his MBBS from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, India, and a master’s degree in Health Systems Management from Rush University in Chicago. He completed his surgical internship at Rush University Medical Center, his general surgery residency at Fairview Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Health System—where he served as Chief Resident—and his fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital.
