Leadership in the Learning Communities

Learning Community House Council (LC House Council)
Each Learning Community has a House Council that provides a mechanism for student governance in the Learning Communities Program. It offers opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills through planning and implementing monthly meetings, educational workshops, peer mentoring, wellness, and social activities for mutual support and engagement. Student Leadership roles in each community include one student leader per LC Signature Program: MedLEAD Peer Mentorship, LC CARES (Community Service & Engagement), LC Wellness.
Executive House Council (EHC)
The Executive House Council serves as the highest level of student leadership in the Learning Communities Program. The EHC supports LC-wide events, programs, and initiatives that serve all CMS students.
During the M1 year, M1 House Council members learn key leadership skills from their M2 counterparts through participation in EHC meetings, leadership retreats led by the Office of Student Affairs, and work together to create a cohesive CMS community through CMS-wide social events and programs.
Starting in the M2 year, every M1 House Council member from all Houses take on additional roles as members of the Executive House Council. These roles include:
- CMS Student Leadership Liaisons: Represent the EHC at CMS leadership meetings, coordinate EHC meetings, and facilitate M1/M2 EHC connection.
- House Cup Chairs: Facilitates the LC House Cup competition that promotes friendly competition between the Houses. One EHC member per House tracks points for their House throughout the year at relevant House Cup events (Field Day, LC CARES events, LC Wellness events).
- LC Event Chairs: The EHC helps plan and facilitate two LC Signature Events per year: the LC Winter Formal Dance in January and CMS Field Day during CMS M1 Orientation. These EHC members are in charge of planning and coordinating these events.
