Summer Between First and Second Year

 
MCUR607 Clinical Experience in a Developing Country is an elective experience in the summer between the first and second year that facilitates the development of the qualities and abilities necessary to work globally as a physician. 70-80students are traveling for credit in 2013.

MDGH601 Clinical Experience in Low Resource Local Communities within High Resource Countries is an elective experience in the summer between the first and second year that facilitates the development of the qualities and abilities necessary to work globally as a physician. Students receive two elective credits for this experience. Students may receive intramural credit for this elective if done in the U.S.

MDGH600 Clinical Experience in Low Resource Local Communities is an elective experience in the second year that facilitates the development of the qualities and abilities necessary to work as a physician in low resource settings. Students gain exposure to clinical and cultural practices in underserved populations. Students receive one intramural elective credit for this experience.

Fourth Year

MDGH800 Global Health Elective is a fourth year elective that provides opportunities to refine and develop educational, professional and personal goals and objectives which will support the 1) pursuit of a vision in global health and 2) acquisition of the abilities necessary to address the health needs of the people of the world, especially the poor, with compassion, integrity, high ethical standards and a high level of competence. Between 15 and 20 students participate in this elective each year.


MDGH801 Clinical Experience in Low Resource Local Communities is a fourth year elective that provides opportunities to refine and develop educational, professional and personal goals and objectives which will support the 1) pursuit of a vision in global health and 2) acquisition of the abilities necessary to address the health needs of the people of the world, especially the poor, with compassion, integrity, high ethical standards and a high level of competence. This elective can be taken for intramural credit.

MPED806 International Clinical Experience China provides an opportunity for students to participate in clinical care at a pediatric hospital in China. Students experience the health system and social determinants of health in China.

Innsbruck Austria Exchange The Chicago Medical School and the Innsbruck Medical University, Austria have an exchange program where fourth year CMS students can spend up to four weeks at the Innsbruck Medical University. Students choose from internal medicine and surgical sub-specialties. Alternative electives may be arranged. Intramural credit is given for this elective.
