Dr. Newton received her Master of Physical Therapy degree from The University of Iowa and her transitional DPT from A.T. Still University. Additionally, she has a Masters in Mass Communication and Journalism from Drake University. Prior to joining RFUMS, Dr. Newton was an assistant professor and director of clinical education at Des Moines University, Des Moines, IA. She is active in the American Physical Therapy Association’s (APTA) Education Section and Clinical Education Special Interest Group where she has served in various capacities. Dr. Newton is an APTA Advanced Credentialed Clinical Instructor and a Trainer for the Basic Credentialed Clinical Instructor Course. Her clinical practice primarily involves young adult to geriatric clientele in acute care and outpatient orthopedics. She also supervises physical therapy students on global health rotations to St. Jude Hospital, Vieux Fort, St. Lucia, West Indies. Dr. Newton has presented at Iowa Physical Therapy Association conferences, APTA national conferences, and APTA Combined Sections Meetings and her research interests in clinical education and interprofessional education have been published in the Journal of Physical Therapy Education and Medical Science Educator, respectively.
