Biography

Director, Clinical Nutrition, University of Chicago Medicine, Chicago IL. Previously, Director and Interim Director of the Nutrition Services Department of Duke University Hospital, Durham NC, preceded by 13 years of experience on the adult Nutrition Support Service, and with trauma, transplant, and medical and surgical intensive care unit patients. Previous career as a medical technologist in microbiology.

Co-editor of text on surgical nutrition. Author or co-author of articles and book chapters on clinical nutrition and nutrition support topics. Speaker on nutrition assessment, nutrition support, ethics, and other topics at local, regional, national, and international meetings.

Editorial Board, Nutrition in Clinical Practice.

Recipient of Distinguished Nutrition Support Dietitian Service Award from the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.), 2010 and the Medallion Award, from the American Dietetic Association (ADA), 2009.

Extensive professional organization involvement including Treasurer, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; Chair, A.S.P.E.N. Dietetics Practice Section; Professional Issues Delegate, Clinical Nutrition, ADA House of Delegates; Chair ( 2 consecutive terms), ADA FNCE Program Planning Advisory Committee, Member and Chair, ADAF Scholarship Committee Member and Chair. Past Chair, Dietitians in Nutrition Support (DNS) Dietetic Practice Group of the ADA. Past President of North Carolina Dietetic Association Co-chair, joint A.S.P.E.N./DNS Task Force for Standards of Practice and Standards of Professional Performance for Registered Dietitians in Nutrition Support. Chair (once) and member of A.S.P.E.N task forces to revise standards of care of hospitalized adult patients.
