Ms. Shanahan has recently developed an interest in genealogy and has traced one line of her husband’s family tree back to Charlemagne (c. 742 – 28 January 814), also known as Charles the Great, (King of the Franks from 768 and Emperor of the Romans (Imperator Romanorum)).
