Joel Shoolin is a Family Physician and also the Vice President of Clinical Informatics for Advocate Health Care in Chicago, Illinois. In this capacity, he is leading a system-wide informatics cultural transformation involving eight hospitals.
Prior to his appointment as Vice President, Dr. Shoolin was the Medical Director of Quality Care and Management at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, a position he held for five years. During his tenure, HCIA named Advocate Lutheran General Hospital #1 in quality in Chicago. The hospital was also named to the Top 10 list of 'standard bearers in patient safety and innovation' by the Consumer's Checkbook, a non-profit consumer education group. Dr. Shoolin has been affiliated with Advocate since its inception in 1995.
Dr. Shoolin is certified by the American Board of Family Practice with additional certification in geriatric medicine. His other affiliations are the American Academy of Family Physicians, Illinois Academy of Family Physicians, and the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS). He is also an adjunct faculty member at The Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, Lake Forest Corporate Education.
Dr. Shoolin received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from The Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at Lutheran General Hospital. He earned his Masters of Business Administration from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management in June 2002.
